Gina Ryan - Autobiography
I have decided to become a nurse because of my strong desire to help those who are ill or recovering from various life events. I believe that God has placed this desire on my heart and has provided me with the necessary skills and talents to achieve this goal. Once license as a Registered Nurse, I would like to work for Hospice. Eventually my plan is to open an assisted living facility/Hospice home that would offer quality care while providing a comfortable, loving, and nurturing atmosphere for those at the end of their lives and their families. I have seen too many people dropped off somewhere and forgotten or, being unable to afford care, cannot get the quality of care that they derserve. If I can improve the quality of life for someone else, even just a little, by providing this service to others, it will make all the difference in their lives and be worth more than a pot of gold.
I am a Navy wife and the mother of six children. We have one income so financially things are pretty rough right now but we have a vision, I have a calling, and it will come to pass. This scholarship is just one step in helping me to achieve my educational and service goals. While to some it may seem unimportant, this scholarship will make ALL the difference in helping me to achieve my goal of service to others as a Registered Nurse.

Nicole Brainard - Autobiography
In order to pay for nursing school last year, I worked two part-time jobs, took out loans, and applied for many scholarships. I managed to maintain a 3.57 cumulative GPA in a very difficult program. I am a first generation college student and as such, my parents are not in a position to be able to assist with funding my education or living expenses. Scholarships relieve a lot of financial pressures and allow me to focus on my studies. In order to accomplish my professional goals, and be an excellent nurse, I need time and energy to fully dedicate myself to this program. This scholarship will allow me to keep my GPA high, which will enable me to be a candidate for graduate school.
My short term goals are to earn my BS and become an RN. When I start off my career, I want to work within public health, specifically in Indian health services, because it's where my heart is. My long term goal is administration within my tribe's health clinic or hospital - which is now in the planning phase - specifically complemented by traditional native healing practices and alternative medicine. Holistic health is the approach I plan to implement when our clinic is built. Complementary and alternative medicine combined with conventional medicine will create an environment that promotes patient autonomy regarding their treatment. I am good with people and I am excited to put my natural leadership skills to use in a field that is challenging and exciting.
